What is this?

Radical tenderness is an approach to understanding systems of oppression while also affirming the humanity, belonging and transformative possibilities of marginalized and oppressed peoples. It is a critical counter to the ways that oppressive systems and dominant discourses attempt to de-humanize those who are considered “other” by way of shame and stereotypes. Radical tenderness requires identifying, living and being accountable to the knowledge that we are all intertwined, and making space for refusal, disruption, and eventual transforming of oppressive systems and relations. A central principle of radical tenderness is that of recognising the humanity and complexity of those subjects who are distinguished from us and remembering our own relationship to privilege and power. Radical tenderness is an ethical praxis that encompasses joy, bravery and ethical responsibility.
